Hand Painted Kitchenhen Childs Ercall, Shropshire

There is something inherently special about working alongside bespoke furniture makers who truly understand the art of cabinetry. As the recommended hand painter for Williamson Mills, I am continually privileged to put the finishing touches on their exceptional creations. This recent project, nestled in the heart of Shropshire in Childs Ercall, stands out as a masterclass in mood, material, and meticulous execution.

Williamson Mills crafted a kitchen of uncompromising quality, featuring seamless integration into an open-plan, light-flooded architectural space complete with striking exposed oak beams and stunning stone countertops. Yet, the defining character of this space lies in the color choice: a deeply saturated, sophisticated aubergine.

Working with a shade this rich is a thrilling test of craft. Deep tones demand absolute precision - there is nowhere for imperfections to hide, and every square inch requires an immaculate, flawless finish that only decades of hands-on experience can deliver. What made this project particularly fascinating was the chameleon-like quality of the aubergine itself. As the natural daylight shifted across the different elevations throughout the day, the cabinetry responded dynamically. In the bright morning sun filtering through the expansive glazing, subtle undertones emerged; by evening, under warm interior lighting, the finish deepened into an enveloping, velvety sophistication that grounded the entire open-plan space.

Paired with exquisite metallic hardware and framed by the warmth of natural wood and stone, the result is a kitchen that feels both dramatic and deeply approachable. It is a space designed for modern living yet elevated by traditional hand-painting techniques - a true celebration of bespoke British manufacturing and expert craftsmanship working in perfect harmony.
