Hand Painted Kitchen Wem, Shropshire

This was a lovely project to work upon - set in the picturesque market town of Wem, North Shropshire. Incidentally, for you keen gardeners out there; Wem is home to the modern sweet pea and hosts an annual Sweet Pea Show – apparently a “riot of colour and scent, to delight the eye and tickle the nostril”… Wem is a quaint town, resplendent with beautiful Georgian buildings and delightful small artisan shops – well worth a visit if ever you are near!

Our time in Wem however, was more concerned with the renovation of an ash kitchen, than sampling, local, real-ale inns and home-cooked meals… although…!?!?!?

We were originally contacted by our, then, prospective clients, to see if we could accommodate their project. It was a smaller project, but sounded right-up-our-street. We were asked to take their rather aged oak kitchen and transform it into a painted beauty… how could we resist!?

We timed our project to coincide with a visit that our clients had planned to London, to visit family – took keys and household instructions and started the preparation process. Please feel free to take a look through some of our other Case Studies on the website to get a full breakdown of our approach – needless to say, our efforts are comprehensive.

Four coats of paint were applied, once all preparation was complete. This included quite a labourious job of filling every slat in every door panel to ensure that the doors were solid when painted and no gaps could be seen through the doors when closed – we weren’t asked to do this, but we felt that it was necessary for our own sanity and job-satisfaction.

Once the paint makeover was complete, the kitchen was re-assembled and fitted with new handles and hardware… rendering the kitchen hardly recognizable from its former self!

Our clients arrived home a day before completion and were beyond happy with their “new” kitchen, even at that stage.

It was fantastic working in Wem and we very much look forward to our next venture into this part of Shropshire. Thank you to our clients for trusting us with their kitchen and for a wonderful reaction to our completed project.

Customer Review

To use a paint-related analogy, Martin does \"exactly what it says on the tin”.

Clean and tidy? YES Dust free, no mess, all surfaces protected

On time and on budget? YES Martin’s customer service is second to none

Fabulous finish? YES An aged ash kitchen has been transformed magnificently

What his website doesn’t say, however, is just what a pleasant man Martin is. He is someone whom you quickly come to think of as a friend.

We were very happy to give him a house key while we had a few days away, during which time he sent us photos of the knob samples we had ordered and gave his advice on which were the most suitable. He even fed the cat!

We have no hesitation in recommending Martin to anyone in need of a first class traditional hand painted kitchen.
