Hand Painted Kitchen Stourbridge - Worcestershire

As Specialist Kitchen Hand Painters, you might expect, we work upon some to the Country’s premier kitchen manufacturers kitchens, if you scroll through the Case Studies and Gallery on this site, you will find many examples. Manufacturers such as Mark Wilkinson Furniture, Smallbone Interiors, Harvey Jones and James Mayor Furniture, etc.

This Stourbridge – Worcestershire project falls within this bracket – our clients informed us that this is a Smallbone Interiors of Devizes kitchen, purchased around ten years ago and now in need of a complete facelift.

The Island had been painted around five years ago by a general painter and decorator and definitely required some work. The main kitchen itself was varnished “clear” and was left as a wooden finish… four iron studs were fitted to the face of all wall units along with a mesh “window” on the larger wall units.

As with every project, be they Designer or a repaint of a twenty years old locally handmade kitchen, we always start with protecting the flooring and all worksurfaces. For this, we use an extremely strong “non-woven” lining paper called WallRock. This is taped down with fourteen days masking tape that will not leave any residue if removed within fourteen days (most projects are).

Following protection, we thoroughly degrease with a variety of Industry leading products – often applied with a toothbrush to get into “all” hard to reach areas – sometimes we remove doors and drawers from the carcasses to do this, other times not… it depends upon the project.

One thing that we ALWAYS do is remove the doors and drawers to paint them. This gives us the best possible “Rolls-Royce” finish… each door (and everywhere else for that matter) will receive at least four coats of paint; two primer coats (tinted to topcoat colour) and at least two water-based topcoats (in a choice of sheen levels).

Before painting we sand surfaces with our dust-free sanding system – it a mixture of German and Finnish manufacturers units and gives a 99.9% dust-free finish… this is better for us – we are not breathing in dust every day. Better for you – no plumes of dust through your home and better for the project – it can leave a beautiful glass-like finish ready for the application of the paint.

There are hundreds of “sub-tasks” in between, but we’re sure that this isn’t the place to discuss the minutiae of hinge preparation and brush types…

Needless to say, when all coats of paint had been applied, and the kitchen had been rebuilt, our clients were amazed by their gorgeous “new” kitchen… we think it looks incredible too!
