Working for a variety of clients, we often meet some extremely interesting people and can learn a great deal information that can prove to be very useful – this was the case on this project; our client, we found, was a complete “tech whizz” and entrepreneur, having two large City-based companies at an enviably young age. He was able to advise on email security, mobile technology and website routing that has proven to be invaluable to us!Anyhoo, the reason you’re reading this isn’t to find which email browser we use, I’m sure, but, to find out more about this lovely Hand Painted kitchen project in Shrewsbury – before painting it was “orange” knotty pine, looked dated… but, as with many kitchens we see, was very well made.
We find that many of the older kitchens that we work upon are well built, and the materials that were used are top notch – being pine, once we had degreased and sanded (99.9% dust-free sanding system), it was necessary to seal in any resins that are still lurking in the substrate. For this, we use a high adhesion sealer/primer that is shellac based… it’s tricky paint to use but is completely necessary for the project to work long-term. We get this paint tinted to the topcoat colour so to build the depth of colour from the first coat (four coats in total, sanding between coats to produce a glasslike, flawless finish).
All doors are removed from the carcasses and Hand Painted in-order to create a fully wrapped “Rolls-Royce” paint finish – once dry, doors are rehomed on the carcasses and all handles and catches are reattached.
