Hand Painted Kitchen Malvern, Worcestershire
Worcestershire and more specifically Malvern, has always been one of our favourite parts of the West Midlands Region to work in… The views of “the Hills” always seem to delight, providing different vistas each day with ever changing weather and light conditions; how could anyone failed to be awed!?!?This particular Hand Painted Kitchen project enjoyed wonderful views of the Hills – quite distracting at times! This was our second project at this wonderful Georgian Famhouse. Our first being a complete overhaul of dressing room furniture, some eighteen months ago (the Case Study can be found on this website). This, our second project, was to refresh an eleven years old “Roundhouse” painted kitchen… still in its original, sprayed, factory finish.
After going through our exhaustive routine of protecting all worktops and flooring in our working area, we degreased all substrates to be painted with our super strong Alkaline cleaning agent; this product is so powerful that it will literally deglaze glossy surfaces, so any household grease doesn’t stand a chance (this kitchen was super clean before we started, but, it was still a necessary step).
Once cleaned, we lightly sanded with our Dust-Free sanding system (99.9% dust free) to provide a finely “keyed” surface ready for our two prime coats… In this case we used Mathys Pegaprim Isofix, which is a shellac based high adhesion sealer/primer, tinted to the same colour as the topcoats, this builds the depth of colour right from the first of the four total coats…
During this stage, all doors and drawer fronts were removed and stored upon two modular racking systems – this means that we can work compactly and also the painted areas get an effective horizontal surface to dry upon. We leave a day between each coat to allow the paint to dry out properly, we’ve found this gives the very best of finishes.
We lightly sand between each coat, this produces a beautifully flawless, flat finish… we pride ourselves on our paint finish; all units are filled with a flexible filler to provide a seamless run of carcasses – sometimes, sprayed kitchens are sprayed as separate units in workshops and then bolted together on site, leaving joints visible… being Hand Painters, and working on site 100% of the time, are able to produce a continuous, uninterrupted, flow from “left to right”… just a detail, perhaps, but we believe that it is important to give a truly bespoke look and feel.
You might be able to tell from the “After” photographs and video below, that we painted the island units in a slightly darker hue in order to break up this large kitchen and to give a little more visual interest – our clients were so very happy with this look.
Once we had completed painting the kitchen and had fully reassembled it, we took a step back and enjoyed the views… of the kitchen… and the Hills. Beautiful! (both).
It was wonderful to be back with our clients again. We enjoyed their incredibly warm Welsh welcome each day, and were very sad to leave, when the project was complete. We hope that they keep enjoying their kitchen, and amazing home. We wish them, and their family, the very best of luck in the future!

Customer Review
This is the second time we have invited Martin into our home. Following a great result on fitted wardrobes that no other decorator would tackle, we decided that our kitchen needed updating. On both occasions he has been very respectful of the fact that our home is our castle and has done everything possible to reduce the inevitable disruption of having work carried out in one's living quarters.
Martin was meticulous in his cleanliness and very organised with his painting system. He also gave me good advice on colour choice and gently guided me away from my beloved cream to very soothing and contrasting shades of stone which work perfectly with the travertine floor.
Above all he was a very reliable and polite gentleman, someone who could be trusted to feed the cat, set the alarm and lock up!
Once again we are delighted with the end result and my husband is relieved that our investment with Martin has made economic good sense as we have a thirteen year old kitchen that looks brand new. His workmanship will be admired and appreciated at our home long after we have left.
