Hand Painted Kitchen Great Ryton, Shropshire
This Hand Painted Kitchen project in Great Ryton, Shropshire, had probably the worst previous paint finish that we have ever seen on a painted kitchen… Our clients had built this Georgian proportioned property some 5 years ago and at the time needed to move in quickly, so they asked a general Painter & Decorator to complete the task alongside some other work that he was undertaking upon the property.We were warned that the paint finish wasn’t the best and that some of the hinges had been painted – what we saw surpassed even what we had been expecting; the paint finish was ghastly, with deep furrows throughout and little comprehension of preparation or any painting ability!!! Please refer to the “Before” photographs below to get a better idea of what we found.
Needless to say, our finish would be a dramatic improvement upon this substandard work and transform this handmade kitchen into a bespoke beauty…
The colours chosen for this particular project were the equivalent of “Indian Yellow” for the island and “Hay” for the main units and over-mantle. To be applied in our usual flawless finish.
After protecting worksurface and floors, we degreased the whole of the kitchen and stripped back all areas to be painted to bare wood and applied a knotting solution to all pine knots and resinous areas. Two solid base coats of our preferred shellac based high adhesion sealer/primer were applied and sanded to a glass-like finish.
The kitchen was then filled and resanded to provide the perfect canvas for the two topcoats of Tikkurila Helmi 30 – a beautiful waterbased 30% sheen paint from Finland.
New handles and hinges, from Häfele, were fitted to complete this textbook transformation… as with all of our projects, we certainly never cut any corners and put a good deal of time, effort and love into every kitchen that we Hand Paint – every coat is applied by hand and we pride ourselves in our attention to detail and an effective, systematic and methodical approach.
What a difference four coats of paint that have been correctly and professionally applied can make. We love this kitchen and are looking forward to even more projects from these particular clients in the near future,
We really enjoyed our time working at this property and were made to feel extremely welcome and at ease, not least by “Coco”, a gorgeous 10 year old English Toy Spaniel, who kept a close eye on us throughout the whole project - insisting on being given a treat every time she took herself “outside” – what a character!
