Hand Painted Kitchen Eldersfield - Worcestershire
Eldersfield is a village and civil parish in the Malvern Hills district of Worcestershire, England. It stands exactly ten miles east of Ledbury and ten miles north of Gloucester; this fact can be found on a milestone on the side of the B4211 road that runs through Corse Lawn. The parish church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist and is in the Diocese of Worcester. The parish registers survive from 1718, and there are bishops' transcripts for the earlier registers starting in 1561… Thank you Wiki!..What Wikipedia doesn't tell us is what a beautiful corner of Worcestershire Eldersfield is. Sitting on the fringes of Gloucestershire, we enjoyed a fabulous commute each day taking in the breath-taking views of the Malvern Hills and surrounding Countryside.
Not only were we treated to exceptional scenery, but when we arrived "onsite", our project was housed in the most beautiful "barn conversion" set opposite the Church of St. John Baptist a glorious 12th Century piece of Architecture; fabulous vistas from our kitchen window and doors were aplenty!
The kitchen project itself was also a delight to work upon; quite an aged example of a handcrafted kitchen, previously painted and showing some signs of its age. Our clients were very happy with the build quality and layout, however wanted a change of colour to bring the kitchen forward.
We timed the start of our project to coincide with a holiday that our clients had booked to South Africa. Keys and codes were handed over and the project was underway - we diligently sent a daily progress report; photographs and videos, to our clients, so that they were fully informed (not that they requested this, but we feel that when you invite people to work in your home, when you are away, this is a sign of great trust, we want our clients to be completely comfortable that the work has been undertaken exactly as specified and as promised).
As ever, we protected all worktops and flooring and thoroughly degreased with our specialist cleaning system (Tikkurila Maalipesu)… followed by our comprehensive preparation routine - 99.9% Dust Free Sanding. All doors and constituent parts were stored on our modular racking systems for ease of movement and airflow.
Prime coats were applied, tinted to the same colour as the topcoat; so as to start building the depth of colour from the first coat. For this project we selected Tikkurila OTEX, a wonderful oil based high adhesion primer, a perfect partner for the waterbased Tikkurila Helmi 30 topcoats. (30% sheen level).
When the kitchen was re-assembled and new handles and knobs were fitted, it was satisfying to see the transformation into what now looks like a newly installed bespoke kitchen - see before and after photographs below.
From feedback that we received from our clients after each daily update, we could tell that they were happy; "Great progress indeed. We are loving the update progress reports and photos", "Excellent. All looks really good. Thanks for all the progress reports" and "love it"…
Even though we didn't see our clients during the project, it was good fun "speaking" with them on a daily basis (and also receiving a video of the glorious South African sunshine when it was threatening snow here in the UK!). As we have said many times upon this website; we are extremely lucky to work for fabulous clients - these clients were no exception, we were completely trusted to work, unattended, in their incredible home. We were left drink making facilities and made to feel completely welcome. Our sincere thanks.
