Hand Painted Kitchen Clifton-upon-Teme, Worcestershire

Our latest Hand Painted Kitchen project – and first of 2018 – was housed in a gorgeous 17th Century cottage in the idyllic location of Clifton-upon-Teme in Worcestershire… apparently, according to Wiki; “There are two grade II* buildings in Clifton-upon-Teme: the parish church of St Kenelm, and Woodmanton Farmhouse. and further 44 grade II listed buildings or structures. Located outside the village at the bottom of the escarpment (and close to the river Teme), but within the parish is Ham Castle Farm which is the location of three grade II listed buildings and one other grade II structure. Close to it are the earthworks remains of Ham Castle.”

We were invited, by our delightful clients, to transform their kitchen, which was previously painted, into more of a modern proposition. The kitchen itself was very well made and the layout worked beautifully for our client’s young family… the paintwork however, wasn’t the greatest that we’ve encountered… it seems that it had been painted by a “professional” a number of years ago and prior to our clients owning the property; at first glance, it looked acceptable, but under closer scrutiny, it wasn’t great!

This is where we stepped in; After protecting work surfaces and flooring, we disassembled the kitchen and thoroughly degreased and prepared – using our dust free sanding system (99.9% dust free).

First painting job; apply coats of Tikkurila OTEX primer, colour matched to the topcoat colour – building up the depth of colour from the first coat – sand back down again to reveal a wonderfully “glassy” surface, ready to accept the topcoats of Tikkurila Helmi 30… of course, much sanding also happened between coats to insure as flawless a finish, as is possible, with brush application.

Once we were happy with the quality of our paint finish, we assembled the kitchen and refitted the original handles, giving the look of a kitchen manufacturer at the top end of the market (in our opinion)… I’m sure you are aware who we are talking about, Mr Wilkinson…

It was a complete joy to work at this beautiful home and quite felt part of the family – being warmly welcomed each morning by the two young boys; being brought model buses, soft toys and jigsaws to play with – fantastic!... not to mention the cups of tea and wonderful conversation with their parents!

Our most sincerest of thanks go out for employing us on this most enjoyable of projects – we love what we do and are fortunate enough to work for some fabulous clients, of whom this clients definitely number!

So the lovely @mjguestltd has left the PW household after being with us every morning at 8am on the dot for a week. He’s probably relieved to not hear me shouting ‘George , Charlie , Dogs or Nick’ at the top of my voice ever again or Charlie constantly calling him daddy (he calls every man daddy worryingly).

But seriously we are so happy with what he’s done, if you're West Midlands based and you're looking for someone to do a professional job, Martin is your guy! Originally when I spoke about getting our kitchen cupboards repainted I had people say ‘why don’t you do it yourself’ well the answer to that is... I want it looking brand spanking new, with no brush marks and after seeing the time and effort that goes in to it I’d never of done it.

The reason Martin was here for a week was because it’s all about the prep, he sanded, primed then sanded again then painted it over and over again, I couldn’t believe how much effort went it to it, it looks like it’s been spray painted but it hasn’t and to top it off he’s a perfectionist (we all love a perfectionist).

Have a look at his website and his case study’s as he specialises in different things. Few more finishing touches and this kitchen is done.

Thanks once again Martin from us all at the mad house.
