Hand Painted Kitchen Bournville - Birmingham

Bournville, according to Wikipedia; …“is a model village on the south side of Birmingham, England, best known for its connections with the Cadbury family and chocolate – including a dark chocolate bar branded Bournville. It is also a ward within the council constituency of Selly Oak and home to the Bournville Centre for Visual Arts. Research by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation in 2003 found that it was ‘one of the nicest places to live in Britain’.”

The reason for the lesson, is that it’s the home of our latest Hand Painted Kitchen project – Our clients contacted us to find if we would be interested in rejuvenating their already painted kitchen… the answer as always was “Yes we would!”.

We produced our quotation - after receiving photographs and information about the kitchen, via email, from our clients… our quotation was accepted and the project was booked in.

The kitchen was originally painted in a factory finished “cream” with a light grey wash accenting the grain. Additionally, each unit was kept separate; having a 3-5mm gap between each unit. Not really the best look for a bespoke kitchen – in our opinion.

The way that we approached this project, was very similar to the way that we always conduct ourselves. We completely protected the work area (worktop and floor) with high quality lining paper and masking tape. We thoroughly degreased all surfaces to be painted and then commenced our “dust-free” sanding routine (99.9% dust free… better for our health, better for the project and better for you – no dust throughout your home).

Once we were satisfied with our preparation, we applied two coats of our preferred high adhesion sealer/primer, tinted to the same colour as the topcoat colour. Afterwards, we sanded back with very fine abrasives to produce a glass-like finish.

We then cleaned all surfaces with methylated spirits, for a final degrease, filled all gaps, cracks and any imperfections in the substrate then applied two topcoats of Tikkurila Helmi 30 tinted 100% accurately to our client’s chosen colour.

Once the topcoats were dry, we re-assembled the kitchen and fitted the handles (which we had also cleaned)… all doors, drawer fronts and kickboards had previously been stored on our modular racking system, on-site to dry, whilst being painted.

Our clients were extremely pleased with their “new kitchen”, rightly so, we think!

Dear Martin\r\nI want to thank you for my beautiful new kitchen. Your attention to detail is wonderful and much appreciated. I enjoyed having you in the house and was very grateful that everything was always left tidy and clean for me. I never felt you had invaded my kitchen space. This is the perfect way to transform an old kitchen into a fresh and perfect one. I have all ready recommended you to friends and will continue to do so. \r\nThank you very much.
