Hand Painted Kitchen Alveley, Shropshire

According to the font of all knowledge; Wiki… “Alveley is a village in the Severn Valley in southeast Shropshire, England, about 11 miles south-southeast of Bridgnorth. It is in the civil parish of Alveley and Romsley. The 2011 Census recorded the parish population as 2,098. The Black Death is said to have killed 60% of the village population in 1349”. Chilling stuff!

It is always a delight to work upon a project for an existing client; A few years ago, we Hand Painted our client’s Utility Room and we obviously impressed them enough for them to ask us back to Hand Paint their “Hatt” Kitchen.

Over the years we have Hand Painted quite a few Hatt Kitchens and always find them to be a good, solid kitchen – our client’s kitchen was no exception. Crafted from solid oak, the doors and drawer fronts were in good order and required only minor attention to get them ready to be painted.

Originally, the kitchen had received a coat of varnish from the Manufacturer’s workshop, over the years – and being looked after very well, by our clients – had not started to deteriorate too badly. In areas where the varnish was a little “questionable”, we applied a specialist stain block primer to seal in the exposed woodwork. In all other areas we applied two coats of our furniture specific primer, expertly mixed (by our supplier) to the chosen colour.

Incidentally, we removed all doors, drawer front and kick boards and fully protected the floor and worktops with our go-to fibre lining paper – this stuff is impervious to liquid and is pretty untearable. The items that we detached were stored upon our modular racking system for convenient storage/drying whilst we paint them.

In total the kitchen received five coats of paint; 3 primer and 2 topcoats, only using a brush – no spraying around here, we take our time with every brushstroke. The existing handles were put back in place and the kitchen reassembled.

Our clients could not have been happier with the look of their new kitchen – previously the kitchen looked a little dated, but now, with a little TLC from us, it looks stylish and really quite contemporary.
